Ode to the Ring
*In the form of a Shakespearian sonnet*
(submitted by Smeagol, formerly known as Gollum)
A dark and dismal cave has been my home
Beneath the Misty Mountains tall and cold
For years I've seen no elf nor man nor gnome
My one companion is a ring of gold.
My Precious! O my golden band of grace!
O may you always stay in my small hand!
And shine your light upon my lonesome face,
While I catch fish along these shores of sand.
If one day slimy orcs besiege my cave,
Then on my finger I will slip the ring,
Unseen, I'll walk among them and thus save
My shriveled skin from goblins and their sting.
When in my clammy cave my life grows drear,
I think of precious and a warmth glows near.
